Tough test for spmotojuniorteam at German’s Lausitzring circuit

#SPMotoMedia

Just two days of rest and 150 km on  the highway to move to another track.
This is what our guys got between the first and second rounds of the #NorthernTalentCup.
It got exactly, in this non-standard, compressed in one month, short racing European season with the flavor of a global pandemic.

The fall of Timur Kostin at the end of Friday’s training sessions and the subsequent repair of the motorcycle  really complicated the task of studying the track and securing the pilot in the TOP10, since the peleton became very dense and now 12-14 people are riding in a second!

Before Saturday’s sessions, the motorcycle was restored, but as it turned out, not completely.
Being elecronically  switched off during qualifying, he allowed the pilot to complete only 3 laps.

As a result, Timur was to start 22nd out of 24 in both races.

It was also misleading that after a few minutes the bike started up again, as if nothing had happened, for no apparent reason.

# RC4R is a new bike, and #KTM is only collecting information from pilots about breakdowns and failures for further vehicle upgrades.

The situation with the bike fail was repeated in the first morning race, a few turns after the start, when Timur had already managed to win back several positions.

Before the second Sunday race, it was decided to replace one of the electronic components, which could theoretically have been damaged by Friday’s fall, and as it turned out, it was the right way.

Timur had an excellent second race, completed several overtakes in the first two laps, caught the group in front, accelerated significantly, bringing the gap from the leader in the best lap to 1.2 seconds.

As a result, he finished 15th, earning important points.

It was not easy to fight with lighter rivals to the second pilot of #SPMotoJuniorTeam – the tall and heavy 14-year-old Maxim Kovalev. He lost to them on straight sections of the track about 8-10 km per hour.

Nevertheless, Max fought well, compensating for the lack of speed with excellent braking and finishing 16th and 19th, respectively, in the first and second races.

The next stop is #Hockenheimring – 11 days later.
